If you are new to card making, please know there is no shame in CASE, CASE, CASE. Even, if you make the exact same card. It is one of the best ways to learn! For example, do you sit your young child in front of the piano and expect him to play a masterpiece or an original score? Of course not! He learns the notes to play, then practice the scales, and learns and play many pieces like Beethoven's Fur Elise...it'll be a long time before he begins composing his own melody! So likewise, give yourself some time to learn card making - it is an art after all. Above all, have fun while you're doing it. And bless others with your hand made cards - I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate a card hand made for them. They never expect perfection, but they always appreciate the fact that you made it for them.
Right, I have digressed! Back to my CASE...
First, I replaced the lattice with the more solid large floral diecut from the Many Layered Blossoms Dies:
Then instead of the focal point being the bunch of flowers on the right, I replaced with a 3"x3" (or 7.7cm x 7.7cm) square piece of Bumblebee paper from the Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper:
You'll noticed that my card is in Portrait instead of Landscape like Kim's. That is my third thing that I changed. It actually works too to have done this card in Landscape.
But I actually "selectively edited" more things. Kim's card has a layer of Gold paper behind the sentiment. I stamped the leaves in Bumblebee ink and die cut from the Plentiful Plants Bundle, intending to use it under the sentiment, but decided it looks better where it is now.
This card being made to showcase the colour Bumblebee, of course I have to use the Bumblebee trinkets as well as the Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon!
Kim's card has a layer of embossing so I embossed the front of my card base using the Vine design from the Greenery Embossing Folders:
Finally, I used a mix of Rhinestone Jewels and Metallic Pearls on my card. Who says you have to use either or, right? Design Tip: An odd number amount used is more visually pleasing. So use one, three, five, etc.
Oh, the sentiment is from Free As A Bird stamp set and stamped in Basic Gray ink, a neutral colour, which is "permissable" in a Monochromatic Card :-) It has come to my attention that Tuesday 8th March is International Women's Day so woohoo! I chose this sentiment so I can give this card to a woman friend on Tuesday - any excuse to give a card, to show our appreciation for them, right? We don't need to wait for their birthday to make and send them a card!
Well, this has turned out to be a long post! I hope you find it helpful though.
