I know, it's only August, but how often have we found ourselves caught out because before we know it, we have missed the deadline to post Christmas cards overseas and then comes Christmas Day we lament we never got round to sending Christmas cards. You get me, right? If I'm a dying breed, well then, I'm here to bring back #sendingChristmascards. Lol.

My four step card making design tips:

1: Select colour theme. In this case, I used the Colour Inkspiration Challenge #104 which is Black, White, Cherry Cobbler and Gold (metallics are allowed in the challenge).

2: A Sketch Design is a good way to kickstart your design process. This sketch from my super talented friend Jennifer Frost is one of my favourites to work with:

You can see some other projects I have made recently using this sketch here, here and here

3. Once you have these two parameters (colour and sketch), then it's a matter of what elements to use:
Embossing folder, Designer Series Paper, Ribbon/Twine, stamp sets, etc. In this case, I wanted to showcase the new Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder from the Mini Catalogue August-December 2021. I have used stamps from the retired Joy To The World Paper Pumpkin Kit (October 2020) -
the wreath was embossed in Gold, "joy" was simply stamped in Cherry Cobbler on Basic White card stock, and "TO THE WORLD" was embossed in white on a strip of Basic Black. Yes, I fussy cut the wreath and joy. I know some people don't like fussy cutting, but it can be your friend, stampers. Truly, it means you save money that you would have spent on the dies if they were available to buy! That's a good way of looking at it eh :-)

4: Finally, add a bit of extra detail to make your card that little bit special. Most commonly, stampers add bling (rhinestones or pearls, sequins), and/or splatters of ink or shimmery paint. Some use interesting elements such as staples or washi tape. Or, like my friend Susan Wong is famously known for her dog-earred corners! On this card, I have swiped White craft ink gently on the black embossed card - thus highlighting the raised (embossed) music notes and staves. I have also used the Wink of Stella Brush to add some shiny glitter to my card. Finally I coloured the pearls with Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends and adhered on the wreath ala holly berries.

And that, my friends, is my basic four step process when designing a card. I hope that is helpful and you will be inspired right away to go make a card using this four step process. If you do, I would love to see your result. I'd love to see pics of your cards on my social post here .

As always, if you have any questions, I am happy to help you.

Until next post, have fun stamping!
