Now, let me digress a bit at this point. I often get asked how I come up with ideas for card making. Firstly, when I was new to card making, I listened to the advice of Catherine Pooler, a highly regarded card maker, to copy copy copy. Learn by doing, and over time and along the way, you will learn much about card design and colour play. I am a much more confident card maker now than when I started, for sure. And I haven't stopped copying! Let me show you now the inspiration for my card today.
Can you see the similarity of my card to Stampin' Up! Artisan Monique De Kok's card? I didn't make her card, but I sure was inspired by it! I CASE-d (Copy and Selectively Edited).
Secondly, participate in challenges. Challenges set some boundaries so we have less decision making ie less overthinking! One of the things I learned in Marketing (my past pre-kids life) is that some of the best advertising campaigns were the result of the Creatives having to be creative with a small budget and/or huge obstacles. In other words, having limitations can be a good thing - it challenges us to be creative!
Challenges might be colour challenge (eg make cards in three pre-set colours), or layout challenge, etc. For example, over at Global Design Project, the challenge this week is to make a card with stripes. So you can see the stripes in my cards today from the background paper I chose to the fringe element on the right bottom corner of the card.
